Musing Mondays

MusingMondays5

Musing Mondays is run by Should Be Reading and asks you to muse about one of the following each week…
• Describe one of your reading habits.
• Tell us what book(s) you recently bought for yourself or someone else, and why you chose that/those book(s).

• What book are you currently desperate to get your hands on? Tell us about it!

• Tell us what you’re reading right now — what you think of it, so far; why you chose it; what you are (or, aren’t) enjoying it.

• Do you have a bookish rant? Something about books or reading (or the industry) that gets your ire up? Share it with us!

• Instead of the above questions, maybe you just want to ramble on about something else pertaining to books — let’s hear it, then!

I have decided I am going to try and catch up with what I have on my TBR and not buy too many new books. If it's something off my wishlist that I'll read straight away than that's allowed, too often I buy a book and it sits unread on my shelf for ages. I'm also cutting back on review books for the time being unless it's one I really want to read, I went a bit mad when I first joined Netgalley last year. I've found that sometimes I'm reading books because I have to rather than want to, I'd like to get back to reading simply for enjoyment for a little while.

I didn't ask for any books for Christmas this year, I still have a large TBR pile I'm going through both of tree and kindle books. I did get some titles from the 12 days of Kindle sale using some of my giftcard balance and my husband did give me another Amazon giftcard so I shall be treating myself again very soon.

These are the eBooks I bought:

My musing:

Doctor Sleep (The Shining, #2)Next Tuesday (24th September) is the publication date of Doctor Sleep by Stephen King. His follow up to The Shining is probably my most anticipated book for some time, if not ever!  I can't remember when this novels publication date was confirmed but I seem to have been waiting for it to come out for a very long time and I've pre-ordered a copy which should hopefully be delivered on the day of publication. I'm now trying to plan the books I'll read before hand so I can start it as soon as or not long after it arrives. I hope it lives up to my expectations.

My musing:

I'm away on holiday and when thinking about what I needed to pack it made me remember how easy the kindle makes my book choices. I never really know what type of book or genre I'll feel like reading next so always used to take about 5 books even though I would only get around to reading one or two of them. Now all I have to do is pack my kindle which is overflowing with ebooks I haven't read, even my phone charger also charges the kindle so that's one more less thing I have to put in the suitcase.
Now if only it was as simple to decide what clothes to take for the four of us and I would be laughing ;)

 My musing:
 The Tommyknockers

I've just started reading The Tommyknockers by Stephen King for the second time. I read it when it first came out but because I wanted to reread it treated myself to the kindle version last month. I know it has had average reviews by some and although I can only remember bits of the story I do know I enjoyed it, will be interesting to see what I think of it now.

I don't reread a lot as there are so many new ones to try instead but Stephen King is someone whose books I will. Other novels I've read more than once include:
The Giant's House by Elizabeth McCracken
The Road by Cormac McCarthy
Replay by Ken Grimwood

My Musing:

I joined in with an online discussion on a forum recently started by someone who disliked ereaders and ebooks a lot. I'll be honest and say I didn't like the idea of them at first but I gradually changed my mind the more I heard about them and got my kindle in 2011. I love the fact I can download a book and start reading it straight away, I can also read for longer on the kindle than if I'm reading a traditional book as my eyes don't get so tired. It's also great when I go on holiday, I just pack my kindle, no more having to decide which books to take (and I always packed too many). However if I read 2 or 3 ebooks in a row then I do miss the feel of a tree book so will read one next and I still borrow a lot of books from my local library.
If people don't want to read ebooks I have no problem with that but surely what's important is that people are reading and enjoying books whatever the format, also if ereaders encourage more people to read who may not have otherwise then it can only be a good thing.
