It's Monday! What Are You Reading?

aaa1

Its Monday! What Are You Reading is a weekly meme run by Book Journey and you can mention books you've just finished, are currently reading and any you plan to read this week. You can leave a link to your blog and read other bloggers posts.

This week I finished Her by Harriet Lane, a psychological thriller that I won in a competition from the publisher. I then started The First Fifteen Lives Of Harry August by Claire North, I've loved other books on a similar theme such as Replay by Ken Grimwood and Life After Life by Kate Atkinson so had been looking forward to this one. It started well but unfortunately by the time I'd got about 30% in I lost interest. It's well written and has had plenty of good reviews but just isn't for me so I've given up on it. I do try and finish a book but believe that life is too short to spend time reading something that I'm not enjoying. I'm now reading The Honk And The Holler Opening Soon by Billie Letts and I'm pleased to say this is holding my interest.

  1. I picked up a copy of The First Fifteen Lives a few months ago but I haven't had time to read it yet. The premise sounds so interesting and like you, I've enjoyed similar speculative fiction books - I hope I like North's writing more than you did, I hate being disappointed and let down by the writing! Love the title of the Billie Letts book.

  2. I'm with you; I agree that life is too short for disappointing books. Hope this week goes better for you.

  3. The honk and Holler sounds interesting... I also have to move on if I'm not liking a book, otherwise I'll avoid and then... reading slump. :) Glad this one is working out better...

  4. I'm sorry The First Fifteen Lives didn't work for you. I think I tend to steer away from books that sound very similar to others that I have read - the possibility of disappointment is so great!

  5. I agree with not finishing books that I am not enjoying. That is why I have been checking out a lot of library print and e-books. If I don't like it, no big deal--no deadlines or review I have to write, no money wasted...just return it.

The Honk and Holler sounds like a fun read. I haven't read any others by the author, but I know she has a solid fan base. Perhaps I should try one and see.
    Thanks for sharing.
